Job Overview
The Senior Civil Structural Engineer will play a pivotal role in our Chimoio operations, leading the design and implementation of robust structural frameworks for large-scale infrastructure projects. This role is essential for ensuring that all construction activities meet the highest international standards of safety, stability, and efficiency. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of structural components, from initial conceptual design and mathematical modeling to on-site inspection and final commissioning. This position requires a unique blend of technical mastery, leadership, and strategic thinking. As a key member of our engineering department, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical specialists, environmental consultants, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions. This is a high-impact role that offers significant career opportunities in Mozambique for professionals looking to lead transformative projects. You will navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure that all designs are optimized for the specific geological and climatic conditions found in the Manica province. We are seeking a visionary engineer who can balance technical rigor with practical, cost-effective construction methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design and analysis of complex infrastructure components using advanced finite element analysis (FEA) software.
- Conduct comprehensive site assessments and review geotechnical reports to inform foundation and structural design decisions.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed technical specifications, construction drawings, and material procurement lists.
- Manage and mentor a team of junior engineers and technicians, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
- Perform rigorous structural integrity audits and inspections during various stages of the construction process.
- Collaborate with local government authorities to ensure all designs comply with Mozambican building codes and international safety regulations.
- Optimize material usage and construction techniques to reduce environmental impact and project costs.
- Provide technical leadership during troubleshooting sessions for unforeseen site conditions or design discrepancies.
Required Skills
- Expertise in structural modeling software such as SAP2000, ETABS, or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Deep understanding of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and soil-structure interaction.
- Strong project management capabilities, including budget oversight and resource allocation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex engineering dilemmas.
- Advanced proficiency in technical report writing and presenting engineering data to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage diverse, multicultural teams.
- Knowledge of international standards such as Eurocodes or American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
Education
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized international university. A Bachelor’s degree is required, but the seniority of this role necessitates advanced academic training in structural mechanics and material science.
Experience
A minimum of 8 to 10 years of professional experience in structural engineering is mandatory. Proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects (such as bridges, heavy industrial foundations, or renewable energy support structures) is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully delivering complex projects from the design phase through to completion. Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa or within similar emerging markets is a significant advantage for this job vacancy in Mozambique.
Salary
The offered salary for this position ranges from 85,000 SSP to 145,000 SSP per month, depending on the candidate’s level of expertise, specialized certifications, and previous experience in the sector.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health and dental insurance coverage for employees and their immediate families.
- Performance-based annual bonuses and long-term incentive plans.
- Relocation assistance for candidates moving to the Chimoio region.
- Access to premium professional development funds and international engineering conferences.
- Generous paid time off, including annual leave and parental leave.

Training
- Advanced certification programs in specialized structural modeling software.

- Continuous professional development (CPD) credits through Orsted’s global training academy.
Working Environment
The working environment is a dynamic mix of modern office-based design work and active on-site field inspections. While much of the analytical work is performed in a professional office setting in Chimoio, the role requires frequent visits to construction sites, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions and industrial environments. We maintain a culture of extreme safety, where every engineer is empowered to halt work if they perceive a risk. This role offers the chance to work on the cutting edge of sustainable infrastructure, providing employment in Mozambique that is both challenging and rewarding.
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit their updated CV and a detailed portfolio of structural projects they have led. Applications will be reviewed based on technical competency, leadership potential, and alignment with our sustainability values.
