Job Overview

The Cultural Tourism Experience Designer will lead the development of immersive cultural itineraries that highlight Mozambique’s traditions, history, and biodiversity. This role requires creativity, cross-cultural collaboration, and a deep understanding of sustainable tourism practices. The position is based in Quelimane, a strategic hub for cultural and ecological tourism in northern Mozambique.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and curate culturally significant tourism experiences, including heritage tours, artisan workshops, and community-led activities.
  • Collaborate with local communities, NGOs, and tourism operators to ensure authentic and ethical engagement.
  • Develop marketing materials and digital content to promote cultural tourism initiatives.
  • Conduct field research to identify new cultural assets and partnerships for tourism development.
  • Monitor and evaluate the social and environmental impact of tourism programs.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in cultural heritage management and tourism planning.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder coordination abilities.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English; additional local languages (e.g., Makhuwa) preferred.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping or digital storytelling tools.
  • Knowledge of sustainable tourism certification standards.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification in Sustainable Tourism preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in tourism development, cultural preservation, or community-based project management.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing tourism programs in emerging markets.

Salary

200,000 – 300,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
