Job Overview
The Senior Maritime Pilot role is a critical position within our marine operations department, specifically focused on the safe navigation and docking of large-scale container vessels within the complex coastal waters and port facilities of Pemba. Key Responsibilities
- Execute precision pilotage for ultra-large container vessels entering and exiting the Pemba port area.
- Conduct detailed assessments of local weather, tidal patterns, and current conditions to determine safe passage windows.
- Collaborate closely with tugboat operators, harbor masters, and vessel captains to coordinate docking maneuvers.
- Maintain and update highly accurate local navigational charts and hydrographic data.
- Lead emergency response protocols in the event of mechanical failure or navigational hazards during transit.
- Mentor and train junior maritime officers on local pilotage procedures and safety standards.
- Ensure all maritime operations comply with international IMO regulations and local Mozambican maritime laws.
- Monitor vessel stability and draft requirements to prevent grounding or structural damage.

Education

Experience
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in maritime navigation is required, with at least 5 years specifically in pilotage or command roles on large commercial vessels. Proven experience operating in the waters of East Africa or similar coastal environments is highly preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of safe vessel handling in challenging maritime conditions.
Salary
The salary for this position is highly competitive, ranging from 150,000 SSP to 280,000 SSP per month, depending on the candidate’s level of expertise and certification. This package reflects the high level of responsibility and specialized skill required for the role.
