Job Overview

The Agricultural Data Scientist will join Syngenta’s Data & Analytics department to transform raw field data into actionable insights that empower farmers and internal stakeholders. Working closely with agronomists, engineers, and product managers, you will design predictive models, develop dashboards, and support decision‑making processes that enhance crop performance and resource efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and integrate heterogeneous agricultural datasets, including satellite imagery, sensor data, and farm management records.
• Develop and validate machine‑learning models to predict yield, disease risk, and input optimization.
• Create interactive visualizations and dashboards for agronomists, extension officers, and farmer partners.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business needs into analytical solutions.
• Conduct statistical analyses to evaluate the impact of new seed varieties and crop protection products.
• Document methodologies, maintain code repositories, and ensure reproducibility of analytical workflows.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in precision agriculture and data science, recommending innovative approaches.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation, modeling, and visualization.
• Experience with GIS tools and remote sensing data (e.g., Google Earth Engine, QGIS).
• Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine‑learning algorithms, and model evaluation techniques.
• Ability to work with large, unstructured datasets and perform data wrangling.
• Excellent communication skills to convey complex insights to non‑technical audiences.
• Knowledge of agronomic principles and crop cycles in tropical environments is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Candidates should have 3‑5 years of professional experience in data analytics, preferably within the agriculture sector or related fields such as environmental science, remote sensing, or agribusiness. Demonstrated experience in building predictive models for crop management will set you apart.

Salary
