Job Overview
The Cultural Heritage Documentation Specialist will lead efforts to digitally archive and preserve Mozambique’s intangible and tangible cultural heritage. This role involves collaborating with local communities, historians, and archaeologists to create a comprehensive digital repository of cultural artifacts, oral histories, and traditional practices. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field research to document cultural heritage sites, artifacts, and traditions in Tete and surrounding regions
- Develop and maintain digital archives using GIS mapping, 3D modeling, and metadata standards
- Collaborate with local communities to record oral histories and traditional knowledge
- Produce reports and publications on cultural heritage findings for academic and public audiences
- Design training programs for local stakeholders in digital archiving techniques
Required Skills
- Proficiency in digital archiving software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, GIS platforms)
- Experience with 3D scanning and photogrammetry for heritage documentation
- Strong project management skills for multi-stakeholder collaborations
- Fluency in Portuguese and local indigenous languages (e.g., Tete) preferred
- Knowledge of UNESCO cultural heritage frameworks and international standards
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Digital Archiving, Anthropology, or related discipline
- Master’s degree preferred but not required
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage documentation or digital archiving
- Proven track record in managing heritage preservation projects in developing regions
Salary
200,000 – 300,000 SSP monthly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
