Job Overview

The Data Center Operations Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of MTN Mozambique’s data center facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage server, storage, and networking equipment to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Perform routine maintenance, firmware upgrades, and patch management on all data center assets.
  • Implement and enforce security controls, including access management, fire suppression systems, and environmental monitoring.
  • Coordinate capacity planning and resource allocation to meet growing demand for cloud and hosted services.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software incidents, providing rapid resolution to minimize service disruption.
  • Document operational procedures, incident reports, and configuration changes in accordance with ITIL standards.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Center, Security Team, and Application Engineers to support end‑to‑end service delivery.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and disaster recovery drills to ensure business continuity.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of server hardware (Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS) and virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V).
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows Server administration.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, including VLANs, routing, and load balancing.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
  • Commitment to adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP, or CompTIA Server+ are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience managing data center operations, preferably within a telecommunications or large‑scale IT environment. Salary
