Job Overview

The Industrial Automation Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems for Siemens’ manufacturing clients in Mozambique and the Southern African region. This role involves close interaction with customers, project managers, and cross‑functional teams to deliver turnkey automation solutions that enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and ensure safety compliance. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program PLC and SCADA systems for new and existing production lines.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to create integrated automation solutions.
• Conduct site assessments, gather requirements, and produce detailed technical specifications.
• Implement and test control logic, HMI interfaces, and communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus).
• Provide on‑site commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure optimal system operation.
• Develop documentation, including wiring diagrams, functional specifications, and user manuals.
• Train client personnel on system operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing data trends and recommending upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with international standards such as IEC 61131, ISO 9001, and local safety regulations.
• Participate in project planning, budgeting, and risk management activities.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in PLC programming languages (TIA Portal, RSLogix, STEP 7, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication networks and protocols.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development and visualization tools.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Problem‑solving mindset with excellent analytical capabilities.
• Effective communication skills in English; Portuguese proficiency is a plus.
• Project management experience, including scheduling and resource allocation.
• Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts, IoT integration, and data analytics.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications such as Siemens Certified Programmer, PLC Professional, or a Master’s degree in Automation are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in industrial automation, preferably within the manufacturing sector. Prior experience with large‑scale projects, system integration, and client-facing roles will be considered an advantage.

Salary
