Job Overview

The Quality Assurance Manager will lead the QA department in ensuring that all pharmaceutical products manufactured in Maputo meet stringent quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, the role involves overseeing quality systems, managing audits, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the production lifecycle. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding product integrity, supporting regulatory submissions, and maintaining Novartis Mozambique’s reputation for excellence.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing quality policies, supervising a team of QA specialists, and collaborating closely with Production, R&D, and Regulatory Affairs. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with GMP and ISO standards.
• Lead internal and external audits, ensuring timely closure of findings and corrective actions.
• Oversee batch release processes, ensuring all products meet quality specifications before distribution.
• Manage deviation investigations, root cause analyses, and CAPA implementation.
• Collaborate with Production, R&D, and Regulatory Affairs to integrate quality considerations into new product development.
• Train and mentor QA staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
• Prepare and submit regulatory documentation to the National Directorate of Medicines and Health Products (DNM).
• Monitor key quality metrics and generate performance reports for senior management.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of GMP, FDA, EMA, and local regulatory requirements.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficiency in quality management software and data analysis tools.
• Effective communication skills in English and Portuguese.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Pharmaceutical GMP Professional (CPGP) are highly desirable.

Experience

At least eight (8) years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical quality assurance, with a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience within a multinational pharmaceutical environment is preferred.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this position is SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and annual salary reviews are part of the compensation package.
