The Minerals Trade Compliance Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all minerals trading activities conducted through our Tete operations comply with applicable international trade laws, sanctions regulations, export controls, and anti-corruption standards. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive trade compliance policies and procedures for minerals trading operations in Mozambique and the broader Southern African region
• Conduct thorough due diligence reviews on counterparties, suppliers, and customers to ensure compliance with sanctions lists, export control regulations, and anti-money laundering requirements
• Monitor changes in international trade regulations and sanctions regimes, assessing potential impacts on trading activities and recommending appropriate responses
• Provide expert guidance to trading teams on compliance matters related to minerals exports, including documentation requirements, licensing procedures, and restricted party screening
• Coordinate with legal counsel and external regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues, respond to inquiries, and maintain positive regulatory relationships
• Lead internal compliance training programs to enhance awareness of trade compliance obligations among trading, logistics, and finance personnel
• Prepare and submit required regulatory reports, license applications, and compliance certifications within established deadlines
• Conduct regular audits of trading processes and documentation to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions

Required Skills

• Extensive knowledge of international trade regulations, including OFAC sanctions, EAR export controls, and UN security council resolutions affecting mineral trade
• Proficiency in trade compliance management systems and screening tools used for counterparty due diligence and restricted party verification
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing complex trade transactions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English, with ability to prepare clear compliance documentation and training materials
• Capability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple functional areas within a matrix organizational structure
• Professional certification in trade compliance (CTP, CTM, or equivalent) strongly preferred
• Understanding of minerals supply chains, mining operations, and commodity trading practices in the African context

Education

A bachelor’s degree in International Trade, International Business, Law, Mining Engineering, Political Science, or a related discipline is required. An advanced degree or professional certification in trade compliance, customs administration, or international relations is highly desirable and may be considered as a substitute for years of experience.

Experience

Minimum of five years of progressive experience in trade compliance, export controls, sanctions compliance, or related regulatory functions within the extractive industries, commodity trading, or international logistics sectors. Prior experience working with African mining operations, managing compliance programs for mineral exports, or supporting trade compliance for bulk commodities is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience at major commodity trading houses, mining companies, or international trading firms will be given priority consideration.
