Job Overview
Veolia Mozambique seeks a highly skilled Circular Economy Waste Management Specialist to lead our waste diversion and resource recovery initiatives in Beira. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing programs that transform traditional linear waste disposal models into sustainable circular systems. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive waste diversion strategies targeting 50% reduction in landfill-bound materials within three years
- Design optimized collection routes and scheduling systems for recyclable materials across residential and commercial sectors
- Establish partnerships with local cooperatives and informal waste pickers to integrate inclusive recycling practices
- Conduct waste characterization studies and material flow analyses to identify recovery opportunities
- Specify, procure, and commission sorting equipment, composting systems, and materials recovery technology
- Monitor and report recycling rates, contamination levels, and environmental performance metrics to stakeholders
- Develop educational materials and training programs for community engagement and waste segregation practices
- Ensure compliance with Mozambican environmental regulations and international waste management standards
- Identify market opportunities for recovered materials and negotiate offtake agreements with buyers
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using data analytics and process optimization techniques
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in waste management operations, recycling technology, or circular economy program development
- Strong analytical capabilities for waste stream characterization and material flow modeling
- Experience with lifecycle assessment tools and environmental impact measurement methodologies

Education
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Circular Economy, Sustainability Studies, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Additional certifications in waste management operations, composting technology, or environmental management systems (ISO 14001) will be considered an advantage. A Bachelor’s degree combined with extensive relevant experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Experience
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in waste management, recycling operations, or environmental services is required. Candidates should demonstrate successful delivery of waste diversion programs, materials recovery facility projects, or circular economy initiatives. Prior experience working in developing economies or Sub-Saharan Africa is highly desirable. Experience with municipal waste management contracts, public-private partnerships, or community-based recycling programs will strengthen your application.
