Key Job Responsibilities (JD)
The Senior Agronomist will be responsible for the technical supervision, implementation, monitoring, and quality delivery of agronomic and agroforestry activities within the project.
Core Duties Include:
- Lead the implementation of Sustainable Agriculture and Land Management (SALM) activities aligned with project proposals, operational plans, budgets, and donor requirements.
- Design and oversee agroforestry systems, sustainable land restoration models, and regenerative farming approaches.
- Ensure effective soil fertility improvement, biomass enhancement, and soil carbon sequestration practices.
- Contribute to the generation and certification of carbon credits under globally recognized standards such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and SD Vista.
- Support climate-smart agriculture interventions aimed at reducing deforestation and forest degradation while protecting biodiversity.
- Coordinate and supervise field teams involved in agriculture, forestry, agroecology, and environmental conservation.
- Provide technical training, mentoring, and capacity building for agronomic staff and local stakeholders.
- Oversee field-based monitoring, evaluation, data collection, and reporting systems according to international standards, including VERRA requirements.
- Strengthen partnerships with government institutions, NGOs, donor agencies, local communities, and environmental stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit technical reports, donor reports, narrative reports, field assessments, and performance tracking documents.
- Promote innovation and knowledge sharing on agroforestry systems, sustainable land use, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience.
- Coordinate with headquarters and thematic focal points regarding agricultural strategies, field challenges, training workshops, and technical improvements.
- Ensure all project outputs meet technical quality standards and project performance indicators.

Education Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Master’s Degree in:
- Agricultural Science
- Environmental Science

Additional certifications in climate-smart agriculture, carbon finance, regenerative agriculture, agroforestry, GIS mapping, or land management systems will be considered advantageous.
Experience Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates should have:
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in:
- Sustainable land management
- Agriculture and agronomy
- Forestry and agroforestry management
- Regenerative agriculture
- Climate resilience and ecosystem restoration
- Carbon offset and sustainability projects
- At least 5 years of professional experience in tropical or sub-tropical environments.
- Previous experience managing large-scale agriculture or environmental projects is highly preferred.
- Prior work experience in Mozambique or Southern Africa will be an added advantage.

Reporting Structure
