Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Geothermal Project Developer to join our dynamic team in Lichinga, Mozambique. This role is central to our strategic expansion into geothermal energy, a sector with tremendous potential for Mozambique’s sustainable development. The Geothermal Project Developer will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and developing geothermal energy projects from initial concept through to financial close. You will conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, manage environmental impact assessments, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including geoscientists, engineers, and financial analysts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of geothermal resource assessment, project financing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks in Mozambique. This position requires frequent travel to project sites in the Lichinga region and collaboration with stakeholders at all levels. Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate geothermal project opportunities in the Lichinga region and surrounding areas
• Conduct technical feasibility studies including resource assessment, reservoir modeling, and production forecasting
• Manage environmental and social impact assessments ensuring compliance with Mozambican regulations and international standards
• Develop project documentation including technical reports, environmental management plans, and permitting applications
• Coordinate with geoscientists and drilling contractors to plan and supervise exploration activities
• Negotiate power purchase agreements and land access arrangements with relevant stakeholders
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and risk registers throughout the development lifecycle
• Prepare investment proposals and present project opportunities to senior management and investors
• Build relationships with government agencies, local communities, and development partners
• Monitor policy developments and regulatory changes affecting geothermal energy development in Mozambique

Required Skills

• Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret geological data and technical reports
• Excellent project management capabilities with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
• Proficiency in geothermal reservoir modeling software and energy production simulation tools
• Knowledge of Mozambican energy regulations, environmental laws, and permitting processes
• Financial modeling skills with understanding of project finance structures
• Strong communication skills for presenting technical information to diverse audiences

• Fluency in Portuguese and English; knowledge of local languages is advantageous

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in Energy Engineering, Geoscience, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Advanced degrees or professional certifications in geothermal energy, project management, or renewable energy development are highly desirable. Candidates with equivalent practical experience in geothermal project development will also be considered.

Experience

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with specific focus on geothermal energy preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated experience managing all phases of project development from site identification through construction handover. Experience working in East Africa or Southern Africa, particularly in Mozambique, is advantageous. Prior involvement in projects that have achieved financial close is highly valued.
